I'm asking because doing the windspear hills is the prerequisite for opening up the quests (while defeating the red dragon is the last order they'll give you - in order to retrieve the holy avenger).

Go it.

* Her inviting the Paladins to fight alongside her against Bodhi and then freaking them out by going Slayer. That might be followed by an Order sponsored (and Keldorn led) expedition to hunt her down and destroy her.

I don't think they're all that bent on punishing MCs. Anomen slaughtered an entire family and the response was that he wasn't fit to be a paladin anymore.

Yeah. I think a Slayer might wigg them out though...

I was considering doing a little mod for Alesandra along those lines, but it ultimately seemed like too much work for a single playthough.

Anyhoo. Thanks for the info HT!

Best,

A.

@Grond0- I'm glad to see Sumer underway. Again, that's a great portrait for a Feralan. :)

Thanks - Sumer has made some good progress and completed his introductory tasks.

- the circus is now restored.
- this run made sure that the beastmaster's equipment was in hand before getting a little extra something from Lehtinan for pretending Sumer would kill Handak for him.
- going through the sewers the hobgoblins quickly fell to rage.  However, I had forgotten that I had added back a group of thieves down there.  They could have been trouble, but after running, hiding and buffing (including summoning a wolf as distraction) Sumer was able to ride the initial backstabs and safely eliminate them.
- after acquiring Lilarcor Sumer went on to the slaver HQ.  Stealth and rage accounted for the initial defenses, before Haegan ran away.  The trolls were not so lucky; I was surprised that Sumer's Bhaal power no longer worked to finish trolls off in this install, but there were some handily placed fire arrows that did the trick instead.  The first mage failed to trouble the scorers and that rage also accounted for the archers before Sumer retreated.  Haegan was eventually tracked down and given the run around before being finished off.  The second mage put up a far greater struggle - his stoneskin and mirror images outlasting rage, though fortunately his dangerous spells had all been used by that point and he died before Sumer quite got to the point of needing to use a healing potion.
- back at the Copper Coronet Hendak's praises got reputation up to 20.  Sumer bought the blade of roses to get charisma up to 20 and attain maximum value for money.  I then let Sumer do some shopping to replace the pretty paltry equipment used to date (basic axe and +1 bastard sword - with no proficiency).  After getting identification glasses and selling all the junk he bought Azuredge, reflection shield, some potions, boots of speed, rings of air control & energy, bracers AC3 and a potion case.
- Azuredge was immediately put to use to save Sansuki from a bunch of vampires.

Sumer is now ready to venture into the wider world and trigger the first ambush.

Where did Sumer get his Boots of Speed from?

Btw. I thought some might appreciate seeing this- I found myself looking it up when Sumer was "born."

[b]X. Andyr.The description of the Feralan kit is follows:

FERALAN: What happens to children who wander in the wilderness and are never recovered? Or worse, those who are abandoned there? Many succumb to the dangers of the wild, but a fortunate few are taken in by animals, raised as a part of a lion`s brood, or a wolf`s litter. Cut off from civilization, they gradually take on the characteristics of the creatures who adopted them, forming some kind of unity with the spirit of the wild. In the process they become feralans, beings who combine the savagery of beasts with the intellect of man.

Due to their wild nature, Feralans may not be of Lawful alignment. As Rangers, they are limited to Good alignments.

Advantages:
- +10% to Stealth ability
- Gains +1 AC at first level, and a further bonus of +1 AC per 5 levels
- May go into a Feral Rage once per day per 10 levels. The enraged state lasts for 60 seconds, and grants a bonus of +2 to hit, damage, and AC, and immunity to charm, hold and fear, maze, imprisonment, stun and sleep. He also gains 15 temporary hit points
- May cast Call of the Wild once per day. This summons an animal companion who will fight for the caster for 3 rounds + 1 round/level. More powerful creatures are summoned at higher levels

Disadvantages:
- Becomes winded after Feral Rage. While he's winded he receives -2 to hit, -2 to damage and a +2 penalty to armor class.
- Limited to one proficiency point in Bastard Sword, Long Sword, Short Sword, Two - Handed Sword, Katana, Scimitar, Halberd, Flail and Crossbow
- May not wear any armour or use Large Shields
- Maximum Charisma is 2 points lower than a standard member of the race

I'd be interested in hearing more about the critters if anyone has that info handy. :)

The boots of speed and the potion case are both added to Ribald's inventory by the Item Pack mod - this also adds a bag of holding into the dungeon.

You might want to look at this - the information from the D&D handbook that Andyr based the kit on.

Update of BlackStrider & Co (Demon's/Devil's Maze)

Argh... that area proved it's reputation - 'twas a Total Mess and a Trial of Sanity! Harvester of Sorrow should be pleased - he has a heavy crop of deaths here... All began in Tanar'ri area (no prebuffs due to previous *no-magic* zone) - BlackStrider was Dire Charmed, Nalia - level drained, Jaheira - stunned and quickly killed. Luckily Nalia managed to call for Planetar, who restored her levels and dispelled BlackStrider's foul state. Ka'rashur was much more grateful - he rewarded us with the mighty  Thieves Hood and fell pretty quick afterwards. As were following Glabrezu, Tieflings (some fun here with Wild Surges) and Cambion with Demon Knights. Demon Wraith's zone were an Apotheosis of Misfortune - Nalia and Imoen died in a blink of an eye, Viconia's Bolt of Glory hit with *whopping* 4hp damage on Wraith but eventually Mazzy annihilated the Cursed Mean Thing. I shudder to think of it's SCS version...

The final nail in a Fortune's coffin lid  was Aesgareth - no Spectral Brand, no Wish Scroll (we wager the way out as we didn't want to risk permanent Exp or Vitality loss). Thank you so much, generous sir! You are most kind!! Damn!!! Looks like we should stay away from casino, russian roulette and the such... and we need some time to cool down...

Here some pics of Band's Maze Twisting:

Great to see you off to a good start Alesia_BH! :)

I have an update on Anatole..

I kept Imoen with me on the way out of the dungeon for carrying and for RP reasons.. no big events happened, though I was surpriced to see golems not being immune to backstabs. I simply have seen it in newer games and had forgotten it was not the case in 2nd' edition? none the less, it will be useful information to posses for this run thats for sure.
Posted Image

As long as one plays it decently carefully there is not much to report from escaping that place... a random screenshot here. I mainly used bows and backstabs all the way out.
Posted Image

When we made it out I traded Imoen for a bag of holding to not make that part of the game too tedious and killed an ogre mage in the circus.. accepted Aerie into my group for a few seconds to borrow some buffing spells and stealthed in and backstabbed him and finished off with a biting arrow.

Went and sold stuff and bought ring of air control and animal control as well as a short bow +2 and some useful potions (Clairity and speed etc.)
The ring of air control and Human influence are used to keep me safe when I make area transitions..
Posted Image

The invisibility is also very useful for picking off important/dangerous characters.. stab --> invis.
Posted Image
Posted Image

I focused on the thief guild quests and the harper hold one first for quick and easy xp and gold.. and to pickup the stronghold. Rayic Gethras was taken down with acid arrows, he didn't get a spell off but I had potions of clairity and a potion of invis ready just in case.
Posted Image

After those I cleared the slavers, didn't enter the sewers.. found a place for the ring of animal handling. send it on his pet while I took him down in one backstab. =P
Posted Image

After that I spend money on recharging staff if striking, picked up a few more potions (btw I also spend money on the nymph cloak +2 cha and another charm to use for a quick tank) and picked up a few protection scrolls of undead and went trademeet.
Twas a quick stealth run where I let Cernd batle the druid.. took down djins myself..
Posted Image
Posted Image
did the undead crypt quest with the usage of one of my recently bought scrolls of undead protection.
Posted Image
After that I did a bounch of shopping, potions, Belt, cloak, Bow for situational usage and the neck of missiles which I recharged and went on my way..

Currently I am working on getting rid of acorns.. the necklase is useful for clearing groups os weaker monstres. Saves a lot of time for my assassin :wizard:

I have never seen any golems vulnerable to backstabs, so I think that either your golems were changed by a mod or these two are an oversight.

I suspect it is because they are lesser golems, which don't have the same immunities - they can also be hit with normal weapons.

:D

Reminds me of a real world experience I had once. I flew into northern Norway late at night. I was the only one on the plane and they locked the airport behind me. Everyone went home and I was ultimately left completely alone with naught but snowbanks around me. Before leaving, they kindly handed me a flier that looked like this.

TAKE THE POLAR BEAR DANGER SERIOUSLY!
Posted Image

I spent 15 minutes seriously wondering whether I was going to get eaten by a Polar Bear before a bus showed up to take me into town....

So yeah, I guess I can understand where the camels are coming from...

Best,

A.

Quick Note on Alessandra's Game:

Alessandra is currently in the Pleasure Palace battling monsters and inventory crashes en route to Firkragg's inner sanctum. She's made short work of the monster. The inventory crashes, less so.

She had made it to Samia before a crash sent her back to the Orc Archers. I'll may start up a session with her soon.

Best,

A.

Quick Note on Alessandra's Game:

Alessandra has completed the Windspear Hills quest. I'll post a full report soon, but in the interim, I have a question for the Paladins out there.

Was Alessandra suppose to receive a crazy number of Detects and Protects when she completed the quest or was that something funky/glitchy?

 Alessandra in the Windspear Hills

The Windspear Hills Quest went very smoothly. Once again, it could have been more interesting were it not for my legendary cowardice. I'll note that my cowardice varies in direct proportion to my fondness for a character. My care with Alessandra likely means that I'm begining to like her. I suppose that is a good thing.

The Paladins

Alessandra didn't exactly mind getting duped into fighting the Paldins: it finally gave her a chance to use the Unholy Blight from her personal item, The Ethics of Ambiguity.
Posted Image

Ruhk Transmuter

Alessandra tried to execute a quick kill here a kin to Ashoka's Backstab->Kamikaze Kobold barrage. Sadly, her uncanny ability to Critical Miss when it counts most prevented that from happening.
Posted Image

Missing out on the quick kill meant peeling through a whole lot of Stoneskins. Alessandra wished she could break the situation down for Ruhk....

"Look. I have Small Shields, Potions, and a Dart. You have Spells, and a Long Sword. That means you lose, I win- go home. And by the way, don't forget to leave the Ring of Fire Resistance by the door on your way out."

Unfortunately, that conversation never took place and Alessandra had to do things the hard way. Or at least the long way...
Posted Image
Posted Image

Orc Archers

Then it was the always epic Orc Archers v. The Reflex battle. The only wrinkle here was that Alessandra opted to get up in their grill and heal the damage from Ruhk's Acid Arrow with The Drinker.
Posted Image

Golems

The choice here was between a Potion of Absorption and Potions of Healing. With Improved Fiends around, it made sense to hold the Potions of Absorption for pre-Roranach's Nabassu fights.
Posted Image
Posted Image

Undead

Oddly, the Ancient/Elder Vamps didn't spawn in at first. Alessandra punked the Mummies, Ghasts, Shadows, and Wraiths and then wandered around a bit hoping to trigger the Vamp spawn.

"Hey guys! It's good to see you! Where have you been?"
Posted Image

The thing I hate about Vamp upgrades is that they make Pro Undead and Azuredge irresitable bargins. I never even flirted with their over-poweredness untill SCS introduced Cloud of Bats. Now I'm addicted...
Posted Image

Guardians

Healing Potions are more valuable then Fire Resistance Potions at this point so Alessandra gulped, cast and equipped so she could take some healing off the Fire Shields.
Posted Image

Samia

Alessandra never had any intention of giving Samia her junk so it made perfect sense for an RP standpoint for her to just juke Samia with Sanctuary...(No Screenshot).

Air Elemental

Instakilled with the Staff of Air
Posted Image

Tazok

Used some Darts of Stunning here in the hope of doing some potion scoring. That didn't work out swimmingly- just got 2 Potions of Extra Healing.
Posted Image
Posted Image

Conster

Standard lonesome-mage kill here. Opened with the Ring of Air Control.
Posted Image
Posted Image

Conster said ProMW, Alessandra said Sanctuary.
Posted Image

Conster said "Spio Dediki", Alessandra counted seconds and timed her Sanctuary refresh to kick in immediately after the dispel. She then cursed Conster's cheesy melee-treated MMMs that he still managed to target even after the Sanctuary went up (only damage in the fight).
Posted Image

Conster said snooze, Alessandra said giggle. She was mildly tempted to add to his woes by layering in Staff of Air Sleep but decided against it since the Mordy Swords were still around.
Posted Image

No more Mordies or ProMW: time to break. Dart of Stunning.
Posted Image

Mr. Efreeti helped peel the skins and ultimately got the kill.
Posted Image
Posted Image

A little more aid from Mr. Efreeti: he helped Alessandra juke the door-blocking Greater Wolfweres.
Posted Image

Fin.
Posted Image

I'm not sure what's next for Alessandra: probably Umar HIlls.

Best,

A.

Update for Sumer.

As soon as he ventured outside the slums he ran into an ambush.  However, as he was stealthed at the time it was easy to account for the mage with some fire breath.  Almost immediately another ambush, but this time Sumer just used his wolf and rage - expired as the last of the ambushers fell.

A detour to deal with Xzar's quest, with more mages to taunt with rage, then he wanted to be off to de'Arnise Hold.  First there was an attempt to get an invisibility ring, but this failed when Sumer's intended killing spell was disrupted (edit: should have used the safer option of firebreath potion).  Another ambush on the way to meet Nalia, with rage again soaking up the nasty spells, though the mage still had a blind left for Sumer.  I tried running round stabbing with a short sword, but that was slow progress and Sumer resorted to cheesy stealth tactics making use of his blindness.

At the Hold there was an unfortunate discovery.  I already knew that Bhaal powers were not killing the trolls, but it was very annoying that the ring of energy didn't work either!  In frustration I let Sumer get surrounded by trolls, which is not a recommended tactic at this stage.  He got out by using his wolf summons to pull the trolls away while he swallowed an invisibility potion.  Ignoring most of the trolls Sumer then worked his way upstairs to look for an axe upgrade.  On the way he came across a rude lady and got his revenge by telling her that the way out was clear (there were hordes of trolls on every routePosted Image).  Sumer enjoyed himself against the golems (his racial enemy), though he didn't like the look of the damage the iron golem was handing out.  As a result he killed this one by using stealth.

After laboriously clearing the trolls away (would have been easier with a simmy, but Sumer didn't have quite enough money for that at the time) he dealt with Glaicus (rare outing for darts of stunning against him) and then moved down to confront Torgal.  While the wolf caused a distraction Torgal was separated from his mates and quickly killed.  The rest took some time, but Sumer kept his cool and all were isolated and dealt with efficiently - one of the yuan-ti mages being the last to fall.

The Hold saw Sumer to 11th level (finally getting a second rage per day) and almost to 12th.  Back in Athkatla he's purchased Vhailor's Helm and shield of Balduran and is considering what to do next.

So long and farewell to Sumer.  He had almost finished clearing the graveyard and the area below and was in the Southern Tombs.  All the initial undead attackers were gone, i.e. only the vampire left.  Sumer was spoilt for choice with options to finish him off, but the one chosen (to ignore his charm attack) was not idealPosted Image.

 Quick Note on Alessandra's Game:

Alessandra is currently enjoying some Berduskan Wine over at the Mithrest Inn. Wilst sipping her beverage, she heard many tales. She was most intrigued by one of a Feralan who had supposedly met his demise in a parallel universe. And while she remains unsure of the existance of such universes, she listened to every detail.

Being a woman of many thoughts but few words, Alessandra merely said: "Tis a pity. A needless death to be sure." She then looked away and wistfully thought that perhaps the god or gods controlling said Feralan were listening to in game music and environmental audio while unaware of the effect emotion can have on concentration. And that perhaps this might explain, in part, other such needless death as well. She considered thinking on it longer, but chose to enjoy her wine instead...

Alessandra will be heading off to meet the Paladins soon.

Best,

A.

Poor Sumer. I guess speeding through your life to save time seems very pointless when your life comes to a sudden stop. I wonder what his final thoughts were.

Condolences Grond0. No-reload is so cruel... a momentary lapse and you're dead.

Gogogo, Alessandra! :)

I've played a bit further with my Berserker(13)->Mage(?) (yes, she has actually made it past the Berserker stage), but I'm starting to get bored already and I'm thinking about a different character -- such is the life of a chronic restarter. I do have some screenshots and notes, though, so if people are interested I could post about how the dual-classing thing was done when solo. Would anyone be interested in that?

Right now, I'm thinking about picking up a Sorcerer or multi-class F/M. (I guess the latter also entails the risk of boredom, but the think that really gets my with F->M is the lack of HLA choices and just general lack of "progress" without finding new scrolls.)

EDIT: Actually, I've also been thinking about an Anti-paladin from the Tactics mod. They're basically evil Inquisitors (with "reverse" reputation requirement), but with the additional property a permanent "dispelling hit" (in melee). It may be slightly overpowered, but I think it could be interesting solo.

Quick Note on Alessandra's Game:

Alessandra paid a visit to the order. She noted the communal dinning area, the lack of a library, and the preponderance of males. She wasn't very interested. Nothing surprising there really. What was surprising was that the feeling was mutual: they weren't interested in her either. Sir Ryan Trawl offered her the Fallen Paladin Quest, but that was it. No stronghold line for Alessandra it seems.

This may be a bug, or it may be due to her alignment (she's Chaotic Good, not Lawful Good). In any event, it isn't a big loss. I'll likely RP something a kin to a stronghold for her (And no: nothing as campy as Alora's "Happlify Athkatla" campaign...). Not sure what it will be yet. It will likely involve the Slayer form and possibly the Helm of Opposite Alignment though.

It looks like Alessandra is off to the Umar Hills.

Best,

A.

@AH- I'm sorry to here you lost interest in Inara. That's one of the biggest risks when running an F->M, F/M I would imagine. (Btw. I've never done one aside from an F/M/C in Improved Anvil).

As for your next play through, the Anti-Paladin sounds interesting, but the permanent dispelling hit seems a over the top. I think you'd incur boredom risk with that one as well. Perhaps you could remove the dispelling hit and (if necessary) introduce a Anti-Paladin equipable dispelling Two-Hander a kin to Carsomyr but minus the 50% Magic Resistance?
