Returning from the Underdark Nil went to the Docks to see what Cromwell might be able to forge. Kruin, a githyanki wild mage, and some friends ambushed Nil demanding the silver blade. A fight ensued, but it was surprisingly easy. The Gith had the other part of the Silver Sword and that was soon forged. I realised I needed to solve the skinner murders to get the other bit of the Gesen bow and went to do that (level 24 - 2* halberd, plus greater whirlwind).
I've only been this far in the game once before in single player, so things were a bit unfamiliar. However, vampire HQ was beckoning and Nil went there. He moved slowly in order to limit the number of attackers and wielded the iMoD in his off hand. The vampires struggled to hit him, while the reverse did not apply and he made good progress, soon getting up to level 25 (greater whirlwind). He picked up the gauntlets of weapon expertise from one of the blood pools.
Downstairs things were no more difficult. He poured some holy water into a blood pool that seemed to slow Bodhi down and Nil was only halfway through a GWW when she gave up. Finishing off a couple more vampires got Nil to level 26 (GWW). Before leaving Nil quickly investigated the other areas, noting that the Southern tombs (not visited before at this stage) didn't appear to have been changed.
Before leaving the graveyard Nil picked up Namarra, reburied Uncle Lester and helped a paladin start a family. Then he travelled back to the Underdark Exit to speak again with Elhan and was sent to Suldanesselar (level 27 - Power Attack). I've only ever been to this city once before (in single player) and didn't last long there that time, so I'm well out of my comfort zone. I was about to push ahead anyway, but decided at the last minute that perhaps I should make sure I had all the equipment that might help (or maybe I was just scared). Investigating Ribald's special stock provided the Helm of Brilliance and I also picked up the shield of reflection and some green scrolls.
Acid protection could be got from Thaxy, so she was the next target. Rage protected against level drain while Nil also used Ilbratha and hardiness; he ran round a bit until Thaxy's PfMW wore off and then 2 GWWs finished the job.
Fire protection was on offer at Windspear Hills and Nil smashed through that (level 28 - critical strike; level 29 - smite). A first use of smite scattered Samia's group around quite nicely, while Conster was also smitten with Nil. I went for a quick kill against Firkraag; Nil's Simmy prepared before attacking with GWW, while Nil himself used the bracers of blinding strike for the first time in conjunction with smite (for the automatic critical hits). Firkraag did manage to get a wing buffet off, but died before he could disperse the attackers (level 30 - GWW).
With all containers pretty much full Nil did some housekeeping back in the city. Funds from that were more than sufficient to buy the Shield of Balduran and forge the red dragon armour.
There's still quite a few things not done in the city, but I think probably Nil should go to Suldanesselar next.
Nil Desperandum, berserker L30, 160 HPs (incl. 5 from Helm), 1,108 kills

Oh no ... who will do the kronking now?
I will miss Kronk dearly. He had style, and a good sense of humor. I'm not sure how we'll be able to replace him.
Nils might have to take up the mantle of Kronk... Looking good Grond! Stay cautious! Keep using overwhelming force!

Traveling with Imoen, Aerie, Korgan, Minsc, Anomen
Permanently killed: Jaheira, Keldorn, Aerie
Abandoned Setben: Mazzy
Setben and gang successfully got out of the Spellhold maze. They also defeated Irenicus and Lonk, primarily with those dispelling arrows we picked up.
We went on the boat with Saemon but were betrayed. We cleared out the enemies in Shark City without any trouble. The mass of undead were primarily dealt with by Anomen and his sanctuary/turn undead.
The party has arrived in the Underdark, cleared out some elementals, drow and Myconids and defeated the trapped souls and are considering our next move.
EDIT: We made a brief foray into the Beholder Lair. With the initial battle with the Elder Orb and his buddy, Aerie got petrified, the one of the behodlers did a fireball, chunking her, making her permanently dead. Setben will miss the love of his life, will he ever find another he wonders...We also lost all her equipment, most important being:
* Robe of Vecna
* Reflection Shield
* Rod of Resurrection (that was our only 1! gulp)
* Dragon's Bane sling
* Charm helmet
Korgan: 136 HP, 87 kills
Minsc: 111 HP, 378 kills
Anomen, 109 HP, 54 kills
Setben, 78 HP, 209 kills
Imoen, 68 HP, 16 kills
Aerie, 58 HP (using CON belt), 79 kills

Ouch! The losses seem to be piling up for you in this run Corey - hope you can keep overcoming them.
We also lost all her equipment

Oh no! Those poor clipped wings are now stoned and shattered... Now's when things get real. Keep strong Corey!

Traveling with: Korgon, Minsc, Anomen
Permanently killed: Jaheira, Keldorn, Aerie, Imoen
Abandoned Setben: Mazzy
Setben and gang managed to clear out the beholder lair without further casualty. However, we ran into a little problem when we cleared out the the demon knights in the Kua-Toa lair - Setben didn't know (corey_russell forgot) that the demon knights level-drain. Minsc nearly got destroyed, he finally remembered to equip his improved mace of disruption. However, the girl who the party worked so hard to rescue, Imoen, got stunned then level-drained to nothing. She didn't have anything important, but now Setben has no females in his party.
Setben believes he can't take on the Illithid lair now, and in fact, doubts he can even do the quests for Phaere, so will take a shortcut out of here, similar to Nil - fight our way to the dragon eggs and get out.

Traveling with: Korgan, Minsc, Nalia, Viconia
Permanently killed: Jaheira, Keldorn, Aerie, Imoen, Anomen
Abandoned Setben: Mazzy
So Setben does his plan of battling the Drow City, getting the eggs, return to Adalon and escape the Underdark - this worked perfectly no problems.
Once back in civilization (Waukeen's Promenade) we get ambushed by Githyanki. Setben did a great play here - he let Korgan and Minsc occupy the enemies, and he went invisible and backstabbed a few of the Githyanki dead. This was a big help. Anomen, however was getting beatup and tried sanctuary but was killed before he could get it off. Setben, Minsc and Korgan were able to finish these enemies, and the Silver Sword was forged afterwards. We also got a lot of bullets at Adventure Mart, we were running low.
Setben the re-recruited Nalia, and then they went to to the Bridge District. Setben laid a few basic snares and then we did a few bufs and Nalia cast stoneskin - which triggered the Cowled Wizards. Anomen spammed summons and the wizards died very fast, while Setben was dispelling the wizards' illusions to help his warriors. Then the party properly buffed and took down Captain Dennis - the party was far stronger than Captain Dennis. Nalia did a cool play here, she cast greater malison then chaos - all enemies failed their save and were promptly mopped up.
Setben de-trapped a door on a building and then they were teleported to this weird area. We did a lot of buffs, most important ones put on Setben. Also summoned some skeletal warriors and ariel servants, then triggered the battle vs. the Twisted Rune. Shangalar was killed by 2x sunray (Korgan and Setben via items) and snares, then the party engaged in melee on the rest.Anomen was full health then suddenly his portrait disappeared - assume it was disintegrate, as his equipment was lost. This hurt, he had some great items:
* Amulet of Power
* 2x wand of heavens
* Armor of the Heart
* Frost Giant Strength Belt (that's right can't forge Crom Faeyr now)
* Sling of Seeking
* Charm Helmet
The surviving party members did avenge Anomen however, and Nalia got a great melee weapon, not that she's in melee much. But now we need a healer! I only have two healers left, Viconia and Cernd. We looked for Viconia in the Graveyard but she wasn't there. So then we went to the Government District and she was still burning at the stake! Oh I never freed her. So we did so and now we have a cleric. Setben picked up two items for Viconia from Adventures Mart, Hill Giant Strength belt and Fortress Shield and gave her a full plate +1 he has been carrying around - she's now well armored. She is using a +2 sling and flail of the ages for melee. She joined the group as a level 13, so that is a big help fortunately.
Party is pretty poor, probably due to our 7 repuation, so will head to Windspear Hills and get some loot from Firkraag.

Abandoned Setben: Mazzy
Setben and gang finally get to Windspear Hills. The battles on the surface were no trouble at all. Time to rescue Garren's daughter. Here were the battles of note:
* Mass of Undead - Minsc soloed these guys with the IMoD as his primary weapon. Just before engaging, Viconica put a protection from undead on him. I berserked Minsc but forgot he had a +2 weapon in the off-hand, but of course can't change that now. It almost went bad as some vampires moved to the open door where the rest of the party was waiting it out - fortunately Korgan used his head and closed the door, then Minsc got business and killed the two groups of undead without further incident.
* Samia's group - lots of summons/snares, minimal buffs except critical buffs to make sure Setben makes it through. No haste, as saving that for the Greater Wolfweres. Party destroyed Samias team, taking minimal damage ourselves.
* Greater Wolfweres - group haste, bless/chant and summons and of course the best ammo - success here.
* Tazok and buddies - party had no trouble at all vs. these enemies, didn't even need buffs except a berserk on Korgan
* Conster - 4 skeletons, ranged/melee fire and of course the killer play, detect illlusions by Setben - quick success, Garren Windspear's daughter finally freed.
* Firkraag - we tried to rest many times but kept get ambushed by undead - the party finally succeeds though and enters his lair.
Preparation: Not much, two ariel servants, invisible stalker, wyvern for summons, remove fear, few buffs on Setben. Setben and Viconia were both supposed to gulp a fire resistance potion but Corey_Russell forgot! Oops...
Plan: Since Korgan spells saves are negative, he will tank. For the first time in a long time, Minsc will use his longbow and arrows of piercing. Everyone else will range. Viconia and Nalia will refresh summons as they get killed. Setben will keep his distance and RoR Korgan during the fight, everyone else will use extra healing potions. Everyone has fire resist gear, so no one should get chunked. Viconica was killed by a firebreath, but otherwise the party succeeds and Firkraag falls - Setben even gets the kill shot!
Party returns to the Copper Coronet and sells their junk - mission accomplished, party finally has some funds, about 32,000. It's all fleeting though, as we have a lot of items to forge by Cromwell, plus need to recharge our RoR wand.

Setben did a few tasks, including retrieve the dragon fire resist gear from Firkraag's Lair and also had Viconia steal the loot from the Illithids in the sewer via haste potion, haste boots and sanctuary.
However, it was all for naught. The gang went to deal with Bodhi for the last time, but came unstuck in the spike trap room. We had defeated the enemies in the room, looted the gauntlets of weapon expertise, and was trying to get out of there. However, Viconia died to traps. So Setben resurrected her but she died again to the traps, which we can't detect! Grr...well Setben decides that he will resurrect Viconia AFTER getting out of the spike room, so Setben tries to get Vicnoia's gear, but two spike traps went off quickly in succession - Setben stopped moving, tried to RoR heal himself, and the trap went off again, killing Setben.
I did not know that the traps are not only self-repeating but will go off again if you are standing on it. Live and learn, as they say. Back to the drawing board. Not sure what will be next, though likely will be not multi-class but a fighter of some type that uses at least D10 for HP, so maybe the traps can't kill me like they did this time..
Setben final status:
Halfling NE Level 13 Fighter/Level 16 thief, 77 HP, 253 kills, Firkraag

Quash, dwarf barbarian (Grond0) & Berud, dwarf barbarian (Gate70)
Several short sessions yesterday saw good progress from the barbarians.
For Thaxy preparation included a few summons (Kitthix, efreeti, berserk warrior) as well as buffs. The initial attack was disrupted by a wing buffet and PfMW, so the duo ran in circles for a few rounds, before turning to attack. Each of us used a couple of potions before Thaxy died, but the fight seemed to be pretty well under control at all times.
Valygar's body was bagged before reporting to the mayor and leaving for Watcher's Keep. The ritual was completed there, activating the statues. However, they didn't all attack in concert so, even though they were pretty tough opponents, the fight was fairly routine. Deciding the lower levels were going to be too difficult, the duo left them for now and returned to the city.
The invasion of the Planar Sphere was successful (and pretty quick). Most encounters were no problem, though there were a few occasions when damage was greater than expected: Berud stood on one trap when already injured, while Quash underestimated the impact of the few remaining inhabitants in the fire room after several had already been lured outside (this screenshot was after a potion had been taken). The demon was also reluctant to give up his heart and had just damaged Quash to the point he was running when Berud sliced him down from behind.
Emerging from the Planar Sphere the barbarians found Tanova waiting in ambush. She pulled the mean trick of attacking while still neutral (damage and a 4 level drain was recorded before she even made an attack roll) and before Quash had raged. Berud suggested Quash should run (draining meant he could potentially be dominated, but he stuck around and the vampires were quickly dispatched.
On to Windspear Hills and lots more easy XP on offer (at least for this combination). The fight with Samia was simple, but quite entertaining. Quash summoned an efreeti and his stinking cloud caused problems for several of the opponents. Samia was already coughing her guts up when Kitthix webbed her - she didn't last long thereafter. Interestingly, once Samia was dead, her conversation was taken up by Akae.
The fight with Firkraag was also pretty straightforward. That was all conducted in melee after the initial wing buffet. The dragon hit Quash several times and, as usual, he was already turning to run when Berud's head appeared over the body of the collapsing dragon.
With access to the illithids now available the duo went to the sewers after selling surplus equipment. First up was a fight with Tarnor and his party. Quash didn't attack quite as quickly as intended after approaching invisibly, which meant the enemies concentrated on Berud - his AC is rather worse than Quash so he took a bit of a beating even though the party all fell rapidly, but he came through OK. For the illithids the basic plan was to have the enemies come into the corridors in order to limit the number of attackers at once. That worked pretty well with Quash tanking and Berud mixing melee and hammer throwing - Quash got drained a number of times, but never to a dangerous point.
The final action was against the Unseeing Eye. Berud asked plaintively why Quash was not using the Shield of Balduran as both of them retreated for the 10th time from a hail of cause serious wounds. However, Quash was confident he could deal with them one at a time (saves protecting him from instant death and BoIB reducing damage from cause wounds) and eventually did so. Half of the rod has been retrieved from the temple and will be put to use next time.
Quash, barbarian L18, 127 HPs (including 5 from Helm), 702 kills
Berud, barbarian L17, 151 HPs (including 13 from ioun stone), 545 kills
There was some sort of MP glitch during the session as Berud failed to get a share of a considerable amount of XP (going from being a couple of hundred XP to a couple of hundred thousand XP behind Quash). However, he has bravely decided to struggle on with just his 17 levels against the expected hordes of kobolds and goblins.

Bumped into Travin on the way back from opening the Planar Sphere with Valygar's body and tracked down a relic of Lathander to return to the Temple. While there, also bought some boots of grounding. A final purchase before leaving the city was the fletcher's stock of dispelling arrows.
Finally, Nil travelled to Suldanesselar and started exploring there. Killing a group of rakshasa got him to L31 (GWW). Rather than use a walkthrough I just explored everywhere looking for the artifacts to summon Rillifane's avatar. On the way to the temple more of the Maharajas / Rajas were enough for L32 (GWW). Inside he battled past various enemies and Suneer, a mage. In killing the latter I noted, not for the first time, that Gesen's electrical damage appears to bypass protection from magic weapons, which is a pretty useful property for a bow to have - a GWW with it was enough to kill the mage.
Checking the journal I realised that there was a black dragon to be killed to get one of the required artifacts. The first attempt at this failed - 2 GWW got Nizi to near death, but Nil was suffering from an overdose of insects and chose to retreat rather than risk trying to finish him off (still not using healing potions and the insect damage eventually only stopped with Nil down to 28 HPs). After resting he came back again, this time armed with a simmy, and there was no further escape for Nizi.
With the temple sorted Nil found a use for a couple of bits of stone discovered earlier in order to open a route underneath the palace (level 33 - hardiness). At this point I had a vague recollection (from a MP run with Gate70) of a need to pick something from the tree before progressing and a bit of experimentation showed the way to do this.
At the tree Nil soon killed the parasites and got teleported into a confrontation with Irenicus. I'd forgotten he would get transported there and wasn't running any buffs, so the immediate priority was to rage to protect against maze / imprisonment. He then killed Jon's mislead image with a GWW and tried a dispelling arrow - but that bounced off absolute immunity. As before, Gesen's electrical damage got through, but the damage from that didn't seem to have much impact on Jon. Nil's rage expired and he made sure to keep his distance until he could renew it. Then he raged again and came into melee. Jon still had a fire shield up though, so he stepped back and used another dispelling arrow, before returning with a GWW to finish the job.
Nil has been dragged after Irenicus into hell. Given I've no idea what effect the various options here have, I think I will probably stoop to using a walkthrough from now on.
Nil Desperandum, berserker L33, 169 HPs (incl. 5 from Helm), 1,175 kills

@Grond0- Nice work with Nil! I agree that relaxing the no healing potion rule makes sense for ToB. As for the RoR, I'm personally unfound of it and restrict its use in all my runs. I'll occasionally allow my characters to use it in the final Ascension fight, but aside from that, it's reserved for resurrecting dead party members outside of combat. You can definitely do without it in vanilla.
EDIT: Of course, if you'd like to use the RoR feel free. It would be wonderful to see you make it and I'd encourage you to use any and all methods that you'd find satisying. I was just sharing my take on the RoR- not trying to impose my norms of play on others. Once again, best of luck to Nil!
