Gate70/Grond0 Multiplayer attempt 22 - (update 7)
Rose, human stalker (Grond0) & Grub, halfling assassin (Gate70)

Some decent play today saw the duo through to completing nearly everything in Athkatla prior to going to Spellhold.

The session started with a testing encounter at the Planar Prison.  The plan had been to make the transition and then run to the east to avoid the ambushing group.  However, Grub's stealth broke just as Rose went through the portal meaning that fighting was necessary.  One of the mages was cut down before his buffs could activate, which helped things, but Grub still got low on HPs as he ran round sending the odd poison bullet at his pursuers.

With that encounter out of the way Rose & Grub worked their way south, trying to pull the odd opponent back away from their fellows.  Patience worked well there and the group of yuan-ti mages and thralls that has caused us problems in the past were disposed of fairly comfortably.  The Master of Thralls was a potential problem with his ability to see through invisible, but he went down fast to Rose's Gaxx improved haste, when Grub showed himself as a target.

The encounter with the Warden started off pretty well with quite a lot of his support troops being pulled away and slaughtered.  However, one of the mages managed to target Grub with a skull trap and that proved costly when he showed himself to the Warden without healing and attracted a Power Word: Kill.  The rod of resurrection soon had him on his feet again though and he bravely kept acting as target until it appeared the Warden was low on spells and Rose joined in again for the finish.

Next up was the Planar Sphere.  That went very well, with no particular problems.  Poison bullets, traps and summons all featured heavily to keep things safe, while the Crimson Dart showed its worth again against the various golems.  The moon dog's buffs and immunity to normal weapons mean it lasts better than most summons and the newly acquired staff of air also produced a few elementals to help out.  The Tanar'ri killed the summons and didn't look like falling just to Grub, so Rose borrowed the Cloak of Displacement and used a potion of invulnerability to melee it.

There was a brief side-trip to Windspear Hills to return the acorns.  That nearly spelled doom for Grub, whose stealth broke and was being chased by enemies while Rose used her speedy boots to forge on ahead.  She entered dialogue to give back the acorns - resulting in Grub being attacked without being able to do anything about it!  However, this time he survived.

The final area tackled was the Unseeing Eye.  Without shorty bonuses Rose was not keen on exposing herself to beholders, so went shopping for the Shield of Balduran.  That made the beholders trivial, though Rose did have to make a saving throw against a prismatic spray trap when she thought Grub had already disabled it.  The shadow fiends were a potential problem, but easily enough handled by Rose allowing them to chase her as far as Grub's waiting backstabs.  Rose did take a very slight chance by meleeing a Ghoul Lord, but she felt pretty confident that Grub's backstab would do the business even if she got held - it did and she didn't.  After doing its work against the Unseeing Eye the rod was returned to the temple before the duo went to confront Gaal; he didn't last long against Gaxx haste.

Stats (cont. from BG1)
Rose, stalker L17, 127 HPs (incl. 5 from Helm), 791 kills (+126)
Grub, assassin L23, 88 HPs (incl. 8 from ioun stone), 361 kills (+61), 4 deaths

Good to see you solved the transition problem, Easymask. Have fun in Amn!
BTW, could you please post your WeiDU log? I'm curious what you meant by cheese and game-changing rules in SCSII

Alas, like many runs tend to end - Auberyn and his band died at the hands of Rayic Gethras.

I did not bring a mage, as I did not want Aerie in my party this time around, and I was planning to obtain the aid of a the rather adept mage; Edwin, for this particular journey. Poor Korgan got chunked in battle against the Slavers rather early on. With Yoshimo dual-classed to fighter due to this, the party almost perished against Suna Seni and her crew. In the end Jaheira was chunked by Rayic and a charmed Auberyn killed his companion Viconia with flaming orbs, after she broke free from Rayic's Maze, and so their adventure ended with the death of Yoshimo..

Back to the old drawing board then, as they say!

See you back at Candlekeep!

Edit: Sure Serg! How does one conjure said log?

In your BG folder there's a text file called WeiDU.log which shows all components of the mods you've installed.

Sad news, Easymask... Rayic Gethras is vicious indeed, especially early on. He wiped out my first SCS2 crew (save main character) once (gating demons among his other spells). And only Polymorph Self: Mustard Jelly saved the day back then.

WeiDU.log is text file located in your game root directory. It generated automatically when you install some WeiDU-based mods (SCSII is among them).

Absol, dwarven swashbuckler (Chapter 7)

After reporting in to Solaufein Absol was sent out to rescue a Matron Mother's daughter.  He was expecting an ambush on the way and pre-set some traps, though only half of them were used as other attackers expired in necklace fireballs.

When the illithids teleported in Absol used a death spell from the skull of death to try and get rid of them, but this had no effect.  Thinking perhaps that was due to the use of the skull rather than a scroll Absol also tried using the latter, but still nothing.  That was serious as Solaufein and Phaere were both under attack by illithids.  However, they managed to survive long enough for Absol to kill the attackers using Gaxx haste (I realised after the battle that I should have used WW - not used to having that yet).

Absol went to do the kuo-toa lair.  After recent experiences I was cautious with the Demon Knights.  A time trap allowed him to kill one of them (could have been more, but none of the others had yet materialised).  However, when time re-started the other traps just left 1 alive to be mobbed by Absol and his summons.  The remaining kuo-toans were easy enough - a time trap + whirlwind easily accounting for the prince.

Returning to the city Absol killed a beholder for Phaere before collecting a helmet from a deadalive gnome and a cloak from a deadalive Solaufein.  After a swashbuckling night of passion Absol went to give Matron Ardulace the Kuo-toan prince's blood and collected some fake eggs from Phaere.  In a hectic period he killed a group of Guanadaur and slimes, invaded Deirex's tower and shot him and took a quick trip to the merchants to make space in his bag of holding; he got pulled into Jarlaxle's pet dimension, where he found just enough space to set a time trap, which enabled him to kill Visaj and Jarlaxle (though he was then transported away without seeing if they had any equipment).  At the temple Solaufein gave him another fake set of eggs and they were soon passed off to Phaere - resulting in a nasty accident for her and the Matron Mother in the temple.

Absol left the city rapidly and returned to Adalon's lair.  Up to this point things had all gone smoothly in the Underdark, but I couldn't get back into the dragon cave and realised I had dropped the light gem somewhere (thinking it was a once-only use like the similar ones in the Umar Hills temple).  Fortunately, after re-tracing his steps, the missing gem was found in the kuo-toa tunnels rather than being stuck in the city.

In the cave Absol used a simulacrum scroll and then both attacked Adalon using WW.  The time trap left there previously triggered, which should have spelt her doom.  However, the game seemed to pause at this point (I think probably to allow the drow disguises to disappear) which wasted the time trap and she survived the other traps triggering.  Absol retreated and put some potion buffs on and laid a second lot of traps.  He also tried using a second simmy, but that one immediately got paralysed by breath (despite wearing a ring of free action).  However, in coming in to try and finish the simmy off Adalon triggered a second time trap and this time Absol's last remaining WW took full effect and the dragon fell.

A few more drow were cleared to allow Absol to make a successful escape from the Underdark.

Stats (cont. from BG1)
Absol, swashbuckler L33, 130 HPs (incl. 5 from Helm, 10 from bracers, 12 from familiar), kills 1,000

Easymask, sorry to hear of your bard's demise. I'll be hanging around Candlekeep for a while myself.

Edit, and congratulations on earning your revenge against the mage in Brynnlaw, Grond0! Not to mention well done in the Underdark... Keep it going!

Aye, 'twas a shame! I was really rooting for Auberyn myself, but Amn is an unforgiving city - and I have never made it to the next Chapter in a No-Reload. I believe Rayic gets me every time!

Absol, dwarven swashbuckler (Chapter 8)

On the way back to the city Absol told Drizzt he needed no help.  He was just thinking he could relax on arriving back at the Promenade when Kruin turned up.  Absol went invisible and then dispelled the gith invisibility before producing some summons to help him beat them up.  He then spent a while reorganising equipment and got Cromwell to forge the Gesen bow and the Silver sword.

Then he headed back to the vampire hide-out.  Nothing fancy there - stealth and melee was all that was needed to clear the trash out.  A couple of summons were put in against Bodhi, but it was still Absol's melee that did all the hard work there.

After that I got stuck for a while, investigating a couple of the new areas when not sure what to do next.  Eventually I consulted a walkthrough and realised I had not staked Bodhi.  With that done and Lanthorn in hand Elhan was happy to send Absol to Suldanesselar.

Stats (cont. from BG1)
Absol, swashbuckler L37, 143 HPs (Helm +5, bracers +10, amulet +5, familiar +12), kills 1,090

Something I been wondering about this No-Reload challenge that i seem to not find the answer too when doing searches.

What class/es haven't complete the No-Reload Challenge of BG2?

There's a list of character classes that haven't completed the trilogy at http://social.biowar...ex/3124065/310. I don't know about just BG2.

It's also a bit hard to say, as there are a ton of BG 2 only no-reload successes, we are only tracking the trilogy successes at this point. Oddly enough, I believe there hasn't been a pure mage success (e.g., not counting sorcerers) in a long time, I don't even remember a success, though there may have been some before I got into the game so to speak. I know for sure there have been rangers, paladins, fighters, barbarians, monk, cleric, thief and sorcerer successes

Absol, dwarven swashbuckler (Chapter 9)

In Suldanesselar most things could be meleed pretty easily.  Remembering that Nil got hurt badly by Nizi's insects Absol ran around to prevent the insects from reaching him until Nizi triggered his time trap and could be meleed to death.

Moving on to the confrontation with Jon, Absol tried laying traps around him.  However, Jon's absolute immunity kept him alive during a time trap, as well as defeating the normal traps.  Absol kept his distance until absolute immunity wore off and then used another time trap.  This time he was able to attack and Jon expired of the damage caused to him during the time stop - though Absol also felt pretty sick from hurling himself at Jon's fire shield before switching to his bow!

Not content with defeating him once, Absol has chased Jon into Hell to have another go at him.

Stats (cont. from BG1)

Absol, dwarven swashbuckler (Final Curtain)

Well that was unexpected.

I was muddling through the Hell trials, not really remembering what results I wanted, but thinking Absol was so powerful already that nothing would make much difference anyway, when he came across a group of beholders.

Thinking that they would be safe as long as they were out of touch range Absol equipped Gesen and started shooting the elder orbs.  One went down to a WW and he was working on a second when this happened:

Looks like I need to revise my views about what constitutes touch rangePosted Image.

Tough break there Grond0. Nice work getting as far as you did though. Could that have been avoided by using a Simmy? e.g., get the simmy imprisoned rather than yourself? A pro-magic scroll works too...

Summons could have worked, but Absol was not bothering with those at this stage of his run. Traps could have been used, but I just wasn't expecting to get imprisoned when not in melee so didn't consider the need for anything beyond his standard weapons.

Nooo! Absol! Another one falls to maze/imprisonment. How many no-reloaders does that make? Condolences, Grond0.

Note that maze is only dangerous to no-reloaders who SOLO - maze is just a hiccup for party play. Imprisonment on the PC is still a problem though that's considered death. But with a party, you just get Anomen imprisoned or whatever and free him with a freedom scroll. Or get your summons imprisoned. Not that many creatures in vanilla BG 2 imprison anyways...and as Grond0 said, he had a number of ways he could have foiled it, had he realized that touch range is farther than he thought...

@Grond0 - I suspect that would have been a great time to pull out the Watcher Keep golem! Let's see those beholders try to hurt that...

@Gate70. I just read about Klonk's success. Congratulations!

@Grond0. Condolences. Since I've always gone left, I've never seen Imprisonment out of the Elder Orb that ended Absol's run. I have seen it out of others though (notably the one in Watcher's Keep). Anyhoo. Best of luck with your next run.

Best,

A.

FYI: I may resume Alisa's run relatively soon. I'll start posting again if I do of course.

That's understandable. However, while the mage spell Imprisonment is touch, the Imprisonment effect can be delievered at range via special ability. Keeping your distance can keep you safe against mages, but not Demi-Liches or certain Elder Orbs.

Sorry for your loss, Grond0...:(

Here are a tiny bit news about The Avatars under BlackStrider's lead. We are full and well and have made some progress. Dealt with traitorous thiefs and obtained silver pantaloons. To restore our tarnished reputation we dealt with fallen paladins and hepled Tiris in Trademeet. Next was the Bodhi's guild. First BlackStrider (under Prot vs Undead and with Azuredge)  tried to deal with local *inhabitants* but they made their saves vs death far too often (not surprise here - they are already dead) so Cassia joined the fray. She was soon level-drained so I gave her my Amulet of Power but that doesn't saved her vs vamp's drink blood abilities... So after clearing the inner vaults we went back to the Docks to forge the improved Mace of Disruption and restore Cassia's levels. In preparation for Tanova we buffs over the top but that wasn't needed in the end. Krimlor cast True Sight dispelling her illusions, Pot hit with Spell Thrust followed by Breach. Her contingency was Stoneskins but Pot foiled that with MM and Krimlor blasted her with Mace of Disruption. Her only successful cast was Prismatic Spray and one of my skellie as the only victim of that. Pretty clean fight if you ask me. Lassal fell soon after and Bodhi was a very quick learner (litteraly few rounds) and her cloud of bats on Pot was the only damage we took from her:

I think the Planar Prison will be our next destination.

Sad to see Absol fall, Grond0. I am amazed at how well some of you know the specific mechanics so well. I tend to jump head and fist in first, then consider the situation after (perhaps that is why I have never made it to the next chapter..?).

Looking forward to your next run!
Oh and greetings to you Alesia, how did your solo Stalker fare?
